7-7-2007 - Waltham, MA - The Waltham Fire Department announces the retirement of its most senior member, Lt. William Kresser. Hired on April 6, 1969, Lt. Kresser completes more than 38 years of service with the department and the City of Waltham when he serves his final shift Saturday, July 7, 2007. Lt. Kresser ends his career serving on Engine Company 1 out of Moody Street Station, the city's oldest firefighting company.
Kresser began his career as a firefighter out of Engine Company 6, Central Station on Lexington St. He was promoted to Fire Lieutenant on June 26, 1983 and was assigned to Squad 5 at Moody Street. Lt. Kresser then went on to serve at various other companies throughout his distinguished career. Chief Richard Cardillo congratulates the Lieutenant on such a long stretch of dedicated service. "Lt. Kresser's leadership, skill and experience will be missed. It is tremendous to see someone so committed to Waltham and the Fire Department that he would serve so long," Cardillo said. "Lt. Kresser will always remain a part of our firefighting family and we wish him all the best in his retirement," Cardillo added.
Waltham Firefighters paid tribute to Lt. Kresser with a farewell party at the conclusion of his last shift on Saturday. He ended his career with a traditional ceremonial ride home on his fire engine.
