Chief Richard Cardillo, Biography

Waltham Fire Department Chief Richard Cardillo currently commands more than 170 members of the city's firefighting force and its support staff. Mayor Jeannette McCarthy appointed Cardillo to the position following the retirement of his predecessor, Chief Thomas Keough, in October of 2005. The City Council unanimously approved Cardillo's appointment and he officially took charge of the Waltham Fire Department on November 29, 2005.

A Waltham native and life-time resident, Cardillo joined the Waltham Fire Department on October 20, 1975 at the age of 22. He rose through the ranks of the department and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1982, Captain in 1986 and Deputy Chief in 1993.
